FANCI @ ICT 2015 Lisbon

October, 20 2015 - October, 22 2015

Centro de Congressos de Lisboa, Praça das Indústrias, Lisboa, Portogallo

The European Commission, together with the Fundaçao para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, are pleased to announce that the most important ICT event in the EU calendar is back! The place to be this year is Centro de Congressos de Lisboa, Portugal between the 20th and 22nd of October 2015.

ICT2015 – Innovate, Connect, Transform – aims to bring together over 4500 ICT enthusiasts from all horizons: research, politics, industry, start-ups, investors, academia.

Imagine controlling a computer – or even a car – with just a twinkle of the eye or having it react to your mood. That’s what the project FANCI (Face and Body Analysis Natural Computer Interaction) is exploring and eventually be demonstrating in an automotive application.

At ICT 2015, visitors will have the chance to experience selected state-of-the-art technologies developed by the project partners for themselves.

FANCI is centered on the integration of multi-modal human-machine technologies on a single platform, realizing significant cost and power savings for the implementation of these functions in embedded products. FANCI is researching, innovating, architecting, designing, developing and validating innovative multi-modal face and body analytics and natural computer interfaces (NCI).

The FANCI consortium is developing a universal reference platform, to fit a variety of applications, which will be validated through an automotive application, applying face localization and biometrics, gaze detection, mood detection and gesture detection and recognition algorithms.

Several driver-centered use cases will be examined, including driver authentication / user profiling, interaction with the car’s infotainment display, selecting music depending on the driver’s mood, dimming infotainment display, live eye tracking and live mood detection. User experience evaluation and benchmarking will be applied in order to validate the technology.

The project FANCI is progressing on schedule towards delivering these capabilities in a market-ready reference architecture. It will combine multi-modal sensor data in a hardware platform to enable robust operation in natural environments, sensing explicit, implicit, and emotional actions of the user in a simple, yet powerful extensible software architecture; provide a low cost, power optimised reference design for embedded products; and validate the approach by building an automotive application demonstrator.

Each of the seven project partners brings in industry-leading expertise:

  • CEVA, Israel – as a leading semiconductor IP company (CEVA home)
  • HARMAN, Germany – as the leading automotive infotainment and audio supplier (HARMAN home)
  • KeyLemon, Switzerland – as the face authentication software specialist (KeyLemon home)
  • nViso, Switzerland – as developer of emotion detection software (NViso home)
  • SoftKinetic, Belgium – as creator of 3D vision technologies and gesture software (SoftKinetic home)
  • Tobii Technology, Sweden – as provider of eye tracking technology (Tobii home)
  • and last but not least the University of Siena, Italy, as the developer of the application layer and the user API (DIISM home).
